Sun Protection Tips

When outdoors protect your skinThere is a growing concern related to overexposure to sunlight. The UVA and UVB radiation increase the risk of skin cancer and photoaging. There is no escaping the sun. The best way to tackle it is to make it a habit to stay protected.

A golden rule is to apply a broad spectrum sunscreen both indoors and outdoors. Don’t let a cloudy day fool you, as the UVA radiation can still find you; it is so strong that it can even penetrate glass. Water babies can choose one which is also water resistant. To make sunscreen effective, apply it at least 30 minutes before you step out and reapply every two hours especially if you are sweaty.

It is not just your face that needs sunscreen. Slather it on all over your body; the radiation can damage your skin even if you are fully covered. Apply lip balm with SPF on your lips where the skin is extra delicate and hence more susceptible to damage. Stay clear of the sun when radiation is at its peak, between 10am and 4pm. Garments considered to be protective are those that are tight woven and light colored.

Don a stylish hat, slip on a pair of sunglasses and you are ready for the sun!
