People are accusing this Dove ad of being racist
Dove is the latest marketer to find itself in hot water, after it ran what many see as a racist ad on Facebook last week.
The beauty brand posted a 3-second video on its US Facebook page on Friday, showing a black woman removing her top to reveal a smiling white woman underneath. On Saturday, the brand said that it had removed the clip in a tweet, and also apologized.
While the Unilever brand is hardly the first to find itself embroiled in a public relations crisis this year, Dove is likely to take a bigger hit to its brand than others, including Pepsi (which was hammered earlier this year for a Kendall Jenner-starring ad), say experts.
That is because the Dove ad isn’t just tone-deaf. More problematic is that the ad’s message seem to stands staunchly against everything that the company’s much-praised, pro-female marketing has stood for over the past decade.
Dove responded to Business Insider’s request for comment, saying that the short video was intended to convey that Dove Body Wash is for every woman and be a celebration of diversity, “but we got it wrong.” The brand also said the video “did not represent the diversity of real beauty, which is something Dove is passionate about and is core to our beliefs” and that it was “re-evaluating our internal processes for creating and approving content to prevent us making this type of mistake in future.”

Bring back real racism, then theyl have something to whinge about haha
I am so sick of all the pandering to blacks. They are 16% of the population and they dominate commercials are in every TV show and movie. The more this country panders to them the more they complain and whine. I say this to blacks and any other who applies. If you find living in the USA is so intolerable pack up and move to Africa there are 20 country's to pick fun and see how far all your baloney gets you there.
People are calling it racist because it’s a hygiene add and it seems to imply that the their products are so good that the ‘dirty’ black woman became clean and white.hu
How is this ad racist??? I think we should save our ire for the legitimate racism that goes on in our society.
Cmon don’t get greedy
I?? Whhhaaaat? Where?
Soo none of these ads are racist…
Y’all are just saying that because you guys are caulcasion🤣🤣🤣
Why didn't they just have the three women saying how wonderful Dove was.
Racism on a new level is terrible
They are trying to represent different cultures. People are getting angry and outraged at the petty little things. We need outrage about discrimination about flint water crisis, climate crisis, starving Yemens
this is not racist.. wtf
Cleaning a black person makes them white? Lol
how is this racist
I think why ppl don’t like this because dove is a cleaning supply and many black people were told that their skin were ugly and dirty. When actually they’re beautiful. It may not have been doves intention but keep in mind that the black person turn white. Try to understand why ppl might find this offensive and let’s learn from it also for other ppl we need to get thicker skin and just get stronger
People get offended by literally everything!
Moral of the story: hot whamen should not wear clothes as it may cause offence
This shit racist 100%
I'm so glad this video got 6.4k dislikes people are waking up to the truth i love my people
Seriously?! what absolute nonsense… theres no racism here…has it ever occurred to anyone that dove competitors use these slander campaigns to harm the competition.
This tactic is not uncommon between competitors and people must stop falling for this nonsense…yes there are cases where adverts are blatantly clueless or just inappropriate but this is definitely not one of them.
People must grow thicker skins because with all this global warming noise making the next generation will just suffer skin burns from people expressing different opinions.
What a joke…
Its just showing diffrent models.
All whites are racist, racism means liking your kind, fact. Proud.
Wankers…. Get a life.
I want my 1 minute & 16 seconds back! What a waste to watch when this ad isn't even racist. We all have different opinions but to me, this is just representing 3 different skin tones (light, dark & tan). I thought the message was dark skin is dirty and dove will "fix" it by turning the black woman to white. But no….It's not. People just think everything is racist.
This is stupid
They think everything is racist.
Just gay
People who call this racist are the ones who are racist.
the fact that they did the black woman first as if her skin was "to dark" or "dirty" bc of it's color is odd….
Well… lighter skin IS more beautiful.
Ah yes, the snowflakes are at it again. Good Lord, at this rate, we'll never achieve world peace!
This isn't racist 😑
I don’t get how this is racist?
Saw the first ad and was like “ meh, I’m sorta offended?, but not that offended to cause outrage” but the 2011 ad caused me to see that it’s truly lil subliminal things they did. Like why is the white woman on the After while the black women are on the before?( the subtle positioning and shot) and why in the second racial ad the black woman is shown First and THEN the white woman after and then someone else with white skin? Deny it all you want but a 2 yr old could’ve seen and told them this was going to cause an outcry
How is this a white racial ad . After the young white lady got onto the set , an Asian lady was the shown . I , personally , don’t see this as an issue
I think the 2011 ad is a bit racist but the other one was just poorly misunderstood
It’s not racist, it’s to show that anyone can use dove
Wait so she was black? Then became white? Then became kind of asian brown?
Idk how this is racist just for showing a bunch of different skin colors wtf
I didn’t find anything racist.. it was showing all different women in different ways it didn’t say or do anything racistttt 🤣
ohhhhhhhhh I get it some people think its racist because they're calling black people dirty so by the time the black model shows and she takes off her shirt it turns into a new white model and by saying that she is clean because she is white. But actually when they are taking off their shirts, it turns into a new model every time so it isn't racist actually.
This ad is not racist, however coming from America it is racist simply because of location. Whites have spent so long in America telling blacks that they are ugly, inferior etc. Blacks going to school and being told their hair is not acceptable. Not having jobs because of skin color etc. The history of blacks bleaching their skin because of comments from so many whites "you are attractive, FOR A BLACK PERSON." that history cannot go away. So the ad automatically is unacceptable. I wouldn't expect a white person to have picked up on it. but if you understand race relations in America it is not appropriate. Sadly America doesn't have the license to speak about this topic because it has never addressed and took responsibility for it's past actions. In fact current actions only compound them.
Never been a huge fan of dove products because they don't work with my skin, but I don't see racism in this ad at all. It seems like everything is racist nowadays.
This shit is why aliens lock their doors when they pass by Earth. I bet they look out the window and think: "Disgusting organisms, I hope it isn't contagious!"
This isn't racist. This entire drama is so ridiculous.
Attack me because I am whiter than snow.
I cannot believe that Dove backed down to the snowflakes
How about we all chill?
Omg In the thumbnail it looks like the white woman is looking under her dress
I seriously can not believe I live in an age with such PUSSIES. SJWs are cancer.
