Painting African Skin Tones

Painting African Skin Tones

This is a video about rendering darker skin tones. I thought mine needed work, so I made a video about my learning process and what I observed along the way. Hopefully this is helpful! I enjoyed making it.

All painting and sketching done in Corel Painter.

Sorry for the background noise, I didn’t realize the microphone was picking up computer noises.

What is the program/tool that you are using to create these digital renderings? I would like to learn how to use it.

This is brilliant! Thank you for this tutorial. I am black and I have been painting dark-toned black people for decades and it was always hit or miss. Painting backward! I'm getting ready to try it. Fingers crossed.

I think one thing to note is that there are middle Eastern and Pakistani, Asian and Polynesian skin tones that has their own underlining colours.
African – as a general term was accurate to what he painted. Black or dark skin tones would actually be more inaccurate as other ethnicities can be dark but have different colours underpinning their skin.

I have no problem with you doing back people, but I noticed in every video people make back people have big lips and big nose and they always have afros. And how can one say because they are this skin color there African? I'm Black and I'm not African? My thoughts. Sir

Nice vid although u rlly tackled the stereotypical shade of black i believe that went for an ebony shade ig that when drawing we tend to use stereotypes to help. Very good vid
