Moisturizers – Hydration vs. Moisture | Humectants, Emollients, Occlusives.
Been a while since my last skincare chat! Moisturizers are paramount to our skincare but are so subjective. I believe we should all have a better understanding of what they are and some of the important ingredients to look for. Since my favourite moisturizers are so emollient, they will send most of you running, I would rather share with you some of the things I think it’s important to understand in order to find what’s right for your skin type and needs. Ofcourse, I will be showing you some products along the way. Thank you, so much for liking when I get all geeky with details. Enjoy! Love you all!

Be careful if you buy Hada Labo in Singapore!
Great Video as always Renee! Where do you buy your Skin care products? I'm in Singapore and just bought the Hada Labo Hydrating Lotion, but after that I realized that Hada Labo Singapore's ingredients are different from the one from Japan and USA. I will try to return mine and buy online instead. The brand is supposed to be the same, but besides the ingredients, the one sold in Singapore is manufactured by Mentholatum in China!
incredible!
This is soooo helpful! I have always had oily skin, but I'm 36, and I'm pretty sure I now have combination skin that's dehydrated. I'm sorting out how to get enough moisture without triggering waves of breakouts, and you have been a lifesaver in this arena!
Oh my god I had to comment! Your video is just so amazingly informative and helpful! Thank you! I recently discovered your channel I am totally obsessed! As you asked at the end of the video, my skin is sensitive and i have rosacea. So happy I found your channel!
When I click on your link for the Hada Lado it takes me to Nordstrom to a product called Sulwhasso. I am very interested in those Korean products please help
So informative!!!!!!!!!! Thank you ๐ค
Hi Renee! Does the Habo lado lotion go on before essence, or after?
Hi Renee- I am a bit confused as to what goes where/when. With Hado Labo lotion and gel; does one first pat on lotion, then apply serums, and then cover with the gel? Does one finish with an occlusive moisturizer like The Ordinary NMF? Could you please tell me what goes first, second, third etc? Thanks in advance!
Think I have rewatched this video at least twenty times, every change of season when my skin needs change, I refresh my knowledge and revisit this to know which direction to take. My skin canโt thank you enough for making my skincare choices, good ones ๐xx
โ If you have dry skin most likely you are dehydrated as well. โ –
grabs water bottle and chugs it
Just found your channel.Your videos are more focused on educating people about skincare rather than products.Very informative.โค๏ธโค๏ธ
My skin is so dry. Iโve tried high end and drugstore moisturizers. I have found that most moisturizers have silicones and wonder how does that benefit my skin? How do I get Moisture in if silicones act as barriers? Iโve thought of just using oil for a moisturizer because no cream has helped. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks for the video..I love hada labo lotion.. after im double cleansing my skin and i use exfoliating toner (somebyme), hada labo works wonderfully on my skin.. but im wondering should i use the milk of hada labo after that? (for holds the humecant), because i think my skin isnt that dry.. im living in tropical country..
Why is it that when I add my skin products (drunk elephant) c firm, lala retro and their sunscreen (morning routine)
Lala retro and marula oil (night routine) my face automatically feels soo stretched and I see thin lines all over my cheeks? My pores also so enlarged too. I'm I dehydrated? I gave their TLC a try for a few weeks, but my skin got so dried after that and it simply won't back to normal. My face looks shiny cause it seems to be oilly, but i still feel it dried. When I smile even more. I've always thought I have combination skin. My T zone tends to be more oily than my C zone. I'm very confused and frustrated. Could you help?
This is video is sooooo educational
I just found you this weekend & I have to say you. Are. A. Queen. ๐ธ thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Omg ure a life saver!! This video has definitely provided me with the answer to my quest: why my super dehydrated skin just gets so sticky and oily when i apply the so called โmoisturizers for dry skinโ on!! <3
renee!!! i have been really trying to be conscious to cut parabens out of my skincare. you and so many people praise the hada labo products but i find that they all contain paraben. is this something that you are wary of or pay attention to in your products? do you consider it to be not as big of a threat vs the benefits you receive from the products? please advise, thanks!
Do you recommend certain products for men?
Awesome content!!! I enjoyed the informative video
Hyalouronic acid and Glycerin do completely different things…..
Hi Renee, what category does the clinique dramatically different lotion fall into?
The product hyperlinks do not work. ๐ซ
If a moisturizer contains all three humectant, occlusive, and emollient properties, would any of them cancel out the other or prevent the other from doing its job on your skin?
Seriously loving your channel! Itโs exactly what Iโve been looking for. You take the hard work out of doing research and trying to understand exactly what to do for our skin types! Thank you soooo much for doing this! You deserve millions of subs! โค๏ธ
Sadly Hada labo didn't work for me. was hoping it would as it's pretty affordable. great review. never knew all these information. thank you for the through explanation. โคโค
Hello, i love your videos since you break down the science behind what everything is and how each ingredient affect your skin! i would like to also learn about the science behind all of this and be more knowledgeable as well. could you please recommend a course that i could take to gain a better knowledge like you have? or even the name of the degree that i should pursue? thank you so much! i love watching your videos!
I have dry skin. I just start to watch your videos. I like your videos. A lot of information on every videos that it good to know.
Hi Renee, Can you do a tutorial on how you do your hair. I want the middle part straighter hair look and I have really thick really dry frizxy hairโน๏ธ Your videos are great! Thank you! Kathy
Hi Renee. I was wondering if you've ever tried or reviewed glycerin cream .
I have a very super oily skin that easily breaks out and leave out nasty scars. Now I often hear that for oily skin, it is advised to moisturize with lightweight products, mainly in the form of gel instead of heavy cream. So far I've used aloe vera and snail slime gel. I've also recently tried several face oils after I looked at your videos (as well as others), such as grapeseed, rosehip, hemp seed, jojoba, tamanu, argan, safflower oils etc. And although these products don't aggravate my acne, I feel like they don't do much for my face either. Face oils in particular. Instead of controlling my sebum production, they tend to make my face even oilier and looks greasy or tacky, it's just nasty and embarrassing.
It wasn't after I use glycerin cream (I use the brand Glysolid that has 50% glycerin content) that I feel like my face starts to change. I still have my acne and scars, but at least the cream doesn't make my face look greasy. And I do get several compliments from people around me after I started using it.
Perhaps you can do one video about glycerin cream esp in regards to oily skin or acne skincare/treatment. I'd sure love to see your take on it.
Amazingly helpful videos! So much in depth information, Thank you! But I mudt say I am so confused. I have to fugure out all this layering. Where is the sunscreen coming in or the eye cream, oils, emulsions, creamsetc. I have to see if you have a video where you are demonstrating your sjpkincare routine! Thanks so much again. BTW you have beautiful skin
Hi there! I love all your videos, and am learning a lot. So firstly, thanks for your informative, helpful, and classy videos. Would you mind making an updated moisturizers video – that includes best moisturizers for all skin types including normal skin? I realize you said that picking moisturizers is subjective, but I'd love to hear your recommendations for moisturizers for normal skin. Thanks again!
Hi there! New to your channel, and I really enjoy your videos. You have the most lovely skin! I have a question for you. I have combo skin that is more dehydrated than truly dry on areas other than my nose. I was wanting to add an essence to my regime that isn't overly expensive. What are some you would reccomend? Thanks
Hi, I have combination ance prone skin but so dehydrated. Med Olive skin tone. Canada.tnx
I need that spatula! I can't find one anywhere!!
Egyptian magic gave me an allergic reaction
Hi renรจe! Im new to your channel and am loving it so far! Could you please do a review on Life Flo oil products? Specifically the Olive Squalane and pure Rosehip seed oil? I have very dry skin that flakes A LOT and have recently gotten a scar on my face too. I heard that rosehip is great for this and also for hyperpigmentation. I just want to know if whether these two products under this brand does what it says, considering the super affordable price they have. Thank you!!
You're one of the best bloggers I've come across and I follow a lot of them ..but you really know your stuff..while there a lot of information I your videos but they never get boring …good going, keep it up..

hi i'm not sure if your link for Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Lotion is correct. The link may have changed since the video was made?
you have absolutely beautiful skin!
Hi Renee, really enjoy ur videos!! Found them a little heavy to begin with but now am a fan ๐ I have skin similar to ur type….would love to hear ur suggestions on best moisturizers/brands for our skin type. Thanks
thx
I recently just got immersed into this skincare routine and is loving it. However, I am stuck with finding the appropriate moisturizer and it would be so nice if you could recommend me one. I was using the Simple $8 drugstore moisturizer but unfortunately it gave me bunch of pimples. I assumed that the moisturizer is too thick for my skin which it clogs my pores. After stop using it, my skin becomes normal again.
I would love love love if you could recommend a moisturizer that is friendly with vitamin C and peptide and light enough that it would not clog my skins.
Thank you so much if you could answer this comment ๐คโค๏ธ. And I love your videos! Super fun and informative!
