Do darker-skinned women have a tougher time finding love – BBC London

Few prominent black men have wives and girlfriends whose skin is darker than their own. Barack Obama is one notable exception. Our reporter Valley Fontaine travelled from London to Washington where it’s Black History Month exploring what is known as Shadism or Colourism.

This makes me cry on how the world looks at darker women…it’s depressing sometimes being a darker color that we have no control over.

Y’all ain’t even darkskin and one reason is that most darkskin get picked on and don’t want they kids to go through the same , like me they call me charcoal, night time , pitch black and a tv when it turned off. That’s one reason I think darkskin don’t want to date darkskin people

TRUTH: Black people are racist to each other.
LIE: Only white people are racist.

So I have started looking into this subject after watching an episode of MTVs Catfished. A young black male had fell in love with a light skinned black girl.. like Beyoncé color. They had been in love for two years but never met. When they finally did meet he was not interested in continuing their romance. Okay, fine. That happens on almost every episode after the betrayal of lying about who they really were. In this episode though he made comments that made it appear that he didn’t want to continue their romantic relationship, not because the lie so much… but because she was darker black skinned. He had the same shade of skin as her. I have white skin myself and can’t relate to how much that would sting and affect you emotionally.. but as sure felt for her through the screen. Is this a common thing? Hadn’t ever heard of this. So sad. Discrimination even among black skinned culture, finding lighter black skin more desirable. Or am I missing the mark completely? Not trying to be offensive to anyone her whatsoever. Was using the episode as a learning catalyst to educate myself on a topic I was unaware existed.

Really with so many black cute girl you bring unattractive black , I can find you attractive black South Sudan who live in village compare to those from internet. Also black girl pick men based on their income which reduces their chance to have marriage earlier, skin alone doesn't have effect. US & UK are mix culture every black has his own culture, tredation, faith, language so on.

I got the "black is beautiful" indoctrination but never bought it. I never liked non-white women. Maybe if I were Asian I'd like Asian women more (some of them are OK) or maybe if I were black I'd prefer black women. It's perfectly normal to prefer your own group, despite the pushing of the idea it's an "ism" to be overcome.

I really want the woman that was rapping at 4:35 to close her mouth just a little. I just cant stand seeing someone's bottom face come out to the point hers does. Her skin color is lovely but her mouth looks ugly.

There are 40 million black people. And only 2 million mulattoes. Why do blacks compare themselves to the most rare race in this country. Black people raping mulattoes by expecting them act like they grew up off another culture.
