Charlamagne on Light Skin vs Dark Skin Tension, Rejecting Labels

Charlamagne on Light Skin vs Dark Skin Tension, Rejecting Labels – Charlamagne Tha God sat down with VladTV once again, this time to discuss R&B singer Tank’s question as to why dark-skinned women are so mad at light-skinned women, a comment that he received a lot of flack for.
The Breakfast Club host doesn’t find anything wrong with what Tank said, and feels that the “Sex Music” singer shouldn’t even care if women are hating on his light-skinned girlfriend. He also admits to making jokes about skin color all the time, but doesn’t believe we should let it hinder us from being our best selves, or make us feel the need to hate on others.
He also brings up Raven-Symone’s recent comments that she doesn’t want to be labeled African-American or Gay, and he agrees with her because he doesn’t want people labeling him as one particular thing either.
Check out Charlamagne above.

my people are so confused and divided. the conversation of skin tone in the African American community is sensitive. People try to sweep it under the rug all the time like it doesn't matter, but it does. Break the cycle and don't raise your kids to be ignorant and judge another Black person by how light or how dark they are. Drop the stereotypes. Dark skin does not equal unnatractive, sidechick, poor, masculine, etc. Light skin does not equal beauty, higher status, smart, etc. I've seen it time and time again growing up and coming into adulthood. It's sickening. I've seen it even with Amara La Negra. She is Afro Latina. people have talked down to her so many times because they don't think she should be considered Latina because of how dark she is. she's gorgeous. her skin color should not effect how successful she is going to be or how people interpret her. People are scared of having dark skinned children so they go outside of their race or reproduce with someone much lighter in skin tone. There was a time when I was younger that all I seen in music videos were lighter skinned and Latina women. It made me question my looks and effected my self esteem greatly because I felt that I had to look a certain way to feel pretty, to get attention, or to be popular in school. In 2019, I've seen an abundance of melanin in music videos and that makes me happy. However, I feel like a lot of people in the industry look at this as some type of trend, because it wasn't as common back then. Melanin is beautiful and it is here to stay.A dark skinned woman doesn't have to have an oiled up and bodacious body to be attractive or beautiful. Melanin is beautiful and it is here to stay. With Charlamagne's platform he could have answered the question a lot differently instead of addressing the issue of colorism in our community.

DARI SKIN WOMEN DONT HATE LIGHTSKINS ! But when the media is constantly telling us we are not beautiful enough yu start to resent your own race. Iโ€™m struggling with self acceptance cause nobody can understand my insecurity surrounding my complexion. So donโ€™t come for a physiological problem surrounding a deep rooted preference of the black community if you donโ€™t understand.

I'm darkskin & glowed up in 11th grade. For the 1st time EVER IN MY LIFE I experience lightskin girls not liking b/c lowkey they think I'm "pretty" & a threat to them b/c they're use to always being praised & told they're better. so 4 a DARKSKIN girl to be seen as more attractive then a lightskin girl it bothers sum people. I'm like "huh? Ur pretty, Y u mad?" I'm not use to being seen as beautiful & wanted. I was always told I'm ugly as a kid 4 being dark. So to be seen a threat b/c I'm a pretty darkskin girl & sometimes prettier then the lightskin girls is a huge "WTF Is going on right now? Moment 4 me..

This is the problem within the black community itself. I get that some darker women get hate for their skin but after that y'all like to get miserable and distance yourselves from women lighter than you because of the color of their skin. No woman needs attention from men depending on the color of their skin. People need to stop looking at everything as skin color because it's just making them lose more friends. And black people who called mixed people "not black" they are black at the end of the day. If I see a light skinned black man walking down the street im not gonna call him a light skinned black man. Psychologically i call him a BLACK MAN. This light skin dark skin war needs to end because nobody is causing the problem but you guys. Stop relying on your skin for attention. Be confident and tell anyone that hates your skin to fuck off because you'll never impress anybody by relying on your skin tone. There are dark skinned women who do get attention on the media and in fashion runways. Go out there and make new friends or do something positive instead of filtering people depending on their skin because you're just as bad as colorist people who tend to filter who's pretty and who's not on their skin tone. Heโ€™s delusional and not making a bit of sense. Heโ€™s deflecting away from the issue. Heโ€™s creating another argument of how I want to be define instead of sticking to the question. Glad you should have challenged him a bit more. Make him come back around to your original question. Men are just dumb and canโ€™t see issues for what they are .. some men not all
